A while ago I managed to brick my trustworthy GPSmap 60CS when I was trying to update its firmware (don't try doing it from within a virtual machine if you can avoid it, unless you have a feeling for adventure ;) ).
It was bad enough that it would not even give any signs of life when trying to turn it on.
So I called Garmin Europe to see how much would it cost to get it repaired... and it was steep enough that I had to Google for a solution for a bit longer... and luckily enough I found a sneaky way of reloading the firmware that actually worked!
Now it's back alive!

Thank you for this info. i bricked my friends gpsII+ and was looking for a way to jtag it back to life when i found this. on the II+, hold "down" (not "left") on the pad and power on. then procede as the link states. the unit is working again. this is what the internet is about. thanks again.
